Famicos provides technical support and supplies to sustain several community gardens throughout our neighborhoods. When we constructed the garden at Doan Classroom Apartments, it was raised off the ground high enough to be wheelchair accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Each spring we partner with Michael R White Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Club to offer a gardening education program for kids.
Famicos has built and operates 5 rain gardens throughout our communities. Rain gardens remove chemicals and sediments from rain water runoff, helps our residential areas drain rain water efficiently, prevents the breeding of mosquitoes in standing water, and transforms vacant lots into beautiful green spaces. We offer residents tours of our rain gardens, and education on how to build their own rain gardens at home.
Famicos has partnered with the City of Cleveland to distribute rain barrels throughout our communities and train homeowners on how to use them. Rain barrels help with water conservation and help to lower water bills.
Famicos has distributed composting bins (Dirt Digesters) throughout our communities and provided education on composting techniques. Composting reduces landfill waste and provides a natural source of fertilizer.
We offer public drop off of papers for shredding four times a year. Current dates and drop off locations can be found on our events page or by checking our calendar.
